Abstract
This short essay (c.1500 words) is a contribution to an edited volume called 'Writing About Screen Media'. The book is edited by the US scholar Lisa Patti. My contribution introduces readers to particular issues that arise when writing about experimental cinema (availability and access, screening spaces, endurance experiences, and so on). It uses Andy Warhol's film 'Empire' as a case study to demonstrate various ways in which authors have written about one canonical example of experimental cinema.
