Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This is the first volume to collect, transcribe, comment on and fully contextualize all the surviving vernacular inscriptions in Venice and the Venetian lagoon from the period 1300-1525. It will provide scholars, students and the educated public for the first time with a remarkable tool for understanding the public writing produced in Venice and its lagoon territory in a crucial period in the history of the great maritime Republic. The cultural significance of the corpus is analysed in terms of history, social history, art history, religious history, palaeography, language and linguistics.
