Abstract

This article explores how and why different types of UN sanctions contribute to conflict prevention in intra-state conflicts. While acknowledging their potential contribution, the Security Council has not yet fully utilized UN sanctions towards conflict prevention, even though high-level UN officials have noted such potential.
