Tools to support international student transitions

Research output: Contribution to conferenceOtherpeer-review

Abstract

This combined presentation and workshop will explore the themes of international student adaptation and overcoming culture shock. It will suggest practical ideas on how the culture shock U-curve model can be used to assist students in transitioning to their new study environments, and how to use critical incident exercises to develop intercultural competence. The presenter will draw on his experience of working with international education programmes in the UK, Japan, and China to highlight examples of good practice and will also invite the audience to participate in and critique activities that can be used with students.
