Abstract

Lays out the context of the international struggle over Syria, looking at the durable features of regional politics; the evolution of the power struggle from the early through the later uprising years; it then examines competitive interference in Syria by global and regional powers and how it frustrated the search for a diplomatic solution; and the internal consequence of this intervention, namely sectarianized civil war.
