Abstract
Reaction of PtCl2(cod) with Pr-2(i) P(S)NHP(S)Pr-2(i) gives [M{N(Pr-2(i) PS)(2)}(2)] (M = Pt 1, Pd 2). Repeated crystallization of the palladium complex from CH2Cl2 resulted in the protonation of one ligand to give [Pd{HN((Pr2PS)-P-i)(2)}{N(Pr-2(i) PS)(2)}]Cl. The X-ray structures of 1 and 2 reveal a dramatic change from flattened chair to pseudo-boat conformation for the MS(2)P(2)N rings. Protonation of the ring does not appear to have major effects on ring conformation. VT P-31 NMR studies on 1 suggest the presence of two conformers at low temperature.
