Abstract

This featured story for the St Andrews and Legacies of Empire project briefly covers the imperial and scientific networks of William Carmichael McIntosh (1838-1917), Professor of Natural History at St Andrews from 1882 to 1917. Within this piece, a brief survey of McIntosh's career, personal connections, and collecting practices are assessed to gain insight into how empire structured scientific inquiry during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
