Abstract

Some 20 years ago a biography on one of my favorite theoreticians, Jacques Ellul, appeared with the title L'homme qui avait presque tout prévu which translates as 'The man who had foreseen almost everything' (Porquet, 2003). Reflecting on the work of Arif Dirlik (1940-2017), the title at once sprang to mind.
