Abstract

The crystal and molecular structure of tibenzylsilanol ((PhCH(2))(3)SiOH) has been refined by the Rietveld method from X-ray powder diffraction data collected with a conventional laboratory powder diffractometer. The compound is isostructural with tribenzylmethanol ((PhCH(2))(3)COH). The crystal consists of isolated molecules with approximate threefold molecular symmetry: there is no hydrogen bonding between the molecules.
