Abstract
This article reviews a the historiography of the battle of Wittstock in October 1636. It then adds in additional reports on the battle from two of the three senior commanders on the victorious side and evaluates how these both overturn the historical orthodoxy concerning the event and bring a totally new understanding of the events of that day.
