Abstract

This chapter follows the raising and deployment of Scottish regiments in France after Louis XIII invoked the 'Auld Alliance' as he prepared his armies to cross the Rhine in 1633. In so doing the work overturns a long held orthodoxy that the Auld Alliance ended in the 16th century.
