Abstract

Condensation of Ph2PCH2OH with 3,4-diaminotoluene in dichloromethane gives a new bidentate ligand 3,4-CH3C6H3(NHCH2PPh2)(2) 1. Compound 1 demonstrates two types of coordination. Reaction of 1 with [MCl2(cod)] (M = Pd, Pt) gives chelate complexes [MCl2{CH3C6H3(NHCH2PPh2)(2)-P,P'}] 3 and 4. Interaction of 1 with [{RhCl(mu-Cl)(cod)}(2)], [{Pd(mu-Cl)(eta(3)-C3H6)}(2)] and [{RuCl2(mu-Cl)(eta(3):eta(3)-C10H16)}(2)] gave bimetallic complexes 5-7. Compounds 1-7 have been characterised by microanalysis, IR, P-31-{H-1} NMR, H-1 NMR, and FAB(+) mass spectroscopies. The structure of ligand 1 was characterised by crystallography in its P(V) compound 3,4-CH3C6H3(NHCH2P(S)Ph-2)(2) 2.
