Abstract

Butyl substituted imidodithiophosphinates R2P(S)NP(S)R'(2) (R=Bu-n,Bu-t, Bu-s; R'=Bu-n,Bu-i,Bu-s) have been synthesised via an HBr elimination reaction between R2P(S)NH, and R'P-2(S)Br. The compounds were characterised spectroscopically. Crystallographic and spectroscopic studies reveal (Bu2P)-Bu-n(S)NHP(S)Bu-n(2) and (Bu2P)-Bu-s(S)NHP(S)Bu-1(2) to be hydrogen bonded transoid dimers and (Bu2P)-Bu-1(S)NHP(S)Bu-1(2) to be a transoid hydrogen bonded chain. Reactions of the imidodithiophosphinates with ZnCl2 or MCl2COD gave the coordination complexes M[R2P(S)NP(S)R'(2)], (R=Bu-n,Bu-i, Bu-s; R'=Bu-n,Bu-i, Bu-s; M=Zn, Pd: R=Bu-n,Bu-i,Bu-s, Pt).
