Abstract

The structure of tribenzylsilane, (PhCH2)3SiH, has been determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The crystal consists of isolated molecules with approximate three-fold rotational symmetry. The compound is isomorphous, and effectively isostructural, with tribenzylsilanol (PhCH2)3SiOH; the crystal structures are discussed in terms of the preferred molecular conformations.
