Abstract

The chapter examines the role of the Paduan actor-director-playwright Angelo Beolco (Ruzante), c. 1496 - 1542, in moving Italian acting styles in the Italian Renaissance away from the essentially rhetorical towards a more balanced blend of verbal and body language.
