Abstract
The N-15 NMR spectrum of mer-(PtIVCl2(S4N4)(PMe2Ph)-N-15 (3) has a complicated coupling arrangement in which all potential 2J{N-15-N-15} interactions are present, in addition to each nitrogen coupling to the phosphorus atom. When a solution of 3 is refluxed in chloroform the complex isomerizes to give 4, which we previously reported to be fac-(PtCl2(S4N4)(PMe2Ph)-N-15 on the basis of P-31 NMR alone. However, more detailed studies indicate that 4 actually contains an S4N42- ligand, coordinated by one sulphur and two nitrogens in a fac arrangement.
