Abstract
The array of mass spectrometry (MS)-based strategies to determine complement of peptide messengers in small neuronal networks was investigated using crustacean stomatogastric nervous system (STNS). Large number of neuromodulatory compounds were tested and identified based on physiological responses and immunostaining. The methods to examine peptide hormones in circulating hemolymph was also developed. The hybrid sample preparation approach was employed with centrifugation to remove high molecular weight species and microscale solid-phase extraction to desalt peptide hormones in hemolymph.
