Abstract

Lunchtime concert in association with The Wallace Collection, Souster and Powell: Co-Modulation

Andrew Powell – live electronics
Kirsten Powell – sound dispersion
Tony George – tuba
Bede Williams – trumpet

British composers Andrew Powell and Tim Souster were both part of the seminal electronic music group Intermodulation. Tony George (co-Artistic Director of The Wallace Collection) and Bede Williams (Head of Instrumental Studies) perform music by both composers that look at the natural world in different ways. Powell’s Plasmogeny II (‘the development of an organism from plasma’) develops from the fundamental notes of the trumpet, and Souster’s Heavy Reductions re-creates the opening waters of Das Rheingold with a Wagnerian orchestra of tape-delayed tubas.
