Abstract

Men dominate Liberia's motorcycle taxi sector. There are only 10 women riders in the country, and they call themselves the Pink Panthers All Female Motorcycle Club of Liberia. KD is one of them. In this film, she talks about international efforts to support women's entry into the sector and explains why motorcycling is important to gender equality and economic empowerment. This documentary short film forms part of the series, Liberia: Legacies of Peace, funded by a grant from the SFC ODA Global Challenges Research Fund. The film has been screened by invitation at several universities (e.g., NYU and Lund) and was invited to a special screening and discussion of gender mainstreaming efforts at the invitation of the British Permanent Mission to the Security Council, in November 2020, with senior advisers of Security Council member states and UN specialized agencies in attendance.
