Abstract

In this study, the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) properties of Co-free perovskite-type Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe0.91Al0.09O3-δ (BSFAl009), and Ba0.5Sr0.5Fe0.91Cu0.2O3-δ (BSFCu) were investigated with proton conducting Ba0.5Sr0.5Ce0.6Zr0.2Gd0.1O3-δ (BSCZGY) and oxide ion conducting La0.8Sr0.2Ga0.8Mg0.2O3-δ (LSGM) electrolytes. BSFAl009 and BSFCu were synthesized through sol-gel method. BSFCu-LSGM/LSGM/BSFCu-LSGM symmetrical cell showed the lowest area specific resistance (ASR) of 0.08 Ωcm2 in air at 800°C, while BSFCu-BSCZGY/BSCZGY/BSFCu-BSCZGY symmetrical cell showed slightly lower performance (0.25 Ωcm2) under the same condition. To further understand the oxygen consumption and release properties in these oxides, thermo-gravimetric analysis was also performed in air/N2.
