Abstract

Several phases of the Tl-Sr-V-O system have been identified by TEM. TlSrVO5 is orthorhombic (a = 5.79, b = 7.46 and c = 9.91 angstrom) coexisting with a minority phase, Tl2V1-xSrxOy, which has slightly different lattice parameters, a = 6.17, b = 7.77 and c = 10.28 angstrom. Reduction tends to remove most of the Tl and the majority phase becomes Sr3-xTlxV2Oy, which is monoclinic with a = 5.64, b = 7.72, c = 9.8 angstrom and alpha = 112.6-degrees. Tl3V2Ox, being tetragonal with a = 8.05 and c = 19.03 angstrom and probably isostructural with Sr3V2O7, is also discussed.
