Abstract

We present the design and initial characterisation of a nanosecond risetime, laser driven 94GHz waveguide switch based on rapid carrier generation in high resistivity silicon. The fast switching time is designed to enable a dramatic reduction in the dead-time of a next-generation pulsed ESR spectrometer being constructed at St Andrews. We discuss the optical and mechanical design of the device.
