Abstract
Marine mammals are highly social animals that rely on cooperative behaviors to survive in an aquatic environment. Complex social interactions are driven by ecological principles that provide a service to those involved. This chapter reviews examples of social organization and communication in marine mammals and how they aid in marine mammal survival.
