Abstract
Project Jupiter is a 2-year project aimed at promoting the UK’s Joint Academic NETwork (JANET) to its member libraries. This paper describes the Project and what it hopes to achieve, and gives general information on the network itself. It looks in some detail at what uses libraries currently make of JANET, and then examines the general question of what functional and service applications are potentially available to libraries over Wide Area Networks (WANs).
