L'Allemagne de Michel Butor

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

This article analyses the symbolic value of Germany in Butor's 'Portrait de l'artiste en jeune singe' and 'Regard double'. It argues that Germany represents a polycentric other where the difficult appreciation of beauty and knowledge is at once fostered and threatened.
