Abstract
This essay introduces the special issue 'Rethinking Performance in Early Modern England: Sources, Contexts, and Forms.' It explores conceptions of 'performance', broadly understood, in early modern England, argues for the general performativity of early modern English culture, and proposes new ways forwards in research.
