The book draws on a diverse set of theorists including John Locke, John Stuart Mill, Aristotle, G F Hegel, Immanuel Kant, Hugo Grotius, and Karl Marx. Themes explored include authority, rights, rules, responsibilities, violence, wealth, nature and belief.
