Abstract

Keynote address at the Royal Aeronautical Society conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the flight of Yuri Gagarin. The paper looks at how American space policy was affected by Gagarin's flight and how John Kennedy was not as enthusiastic about space as is commonly believed.
