Abstract

The authors report the observation of a cavity mode, at lambda = 0.94 mu m, which is tightly confined between two slabs of two-dimensional photonic crystals deeply etched into a laser-like heterostructure waveguide. Guided photoluminescence of this heterostructure is used as an internal point source to probe the horizontal cavity.
