This essay provides an overview of the career of US film director Gregg Araki, highlighting auteurist connections between individual titles (stylised mise-en-scene, shoegaze music, representations of teenagers). Particular attention is paid to road movieThe Living End (1992), a key title in the New Queer Cinema movement, and child abuse dramaMysterious Skin (2004), a well-received adaptation of Scott Heim's novel.
