Abstract
The confession of Lamentations 3:22–23 has a special place in Christian hymnody, yet their relatioship to the source text remains problematic. The essay (originally the Tilsley Lecture for 2025) examines the text in context, as well as its place in Jewish and Christian liturgy, leading to implications for Christian worship.
