Abstract
The effects of spatial variations in the heating of coronal loops are investigated. Equilibrium states were studied in order to gain an insight into the features of the solutions. Critical values of the length of the loop and the decay length of the heating were found. The implications of these parameters for prominences formation were studied using time-dependent numerical simulations.
