Abstract

This month's report from the microbial-genomics banquet dishes up new representatives for two genome-rich bacterial groups, along with a eukaryotic microorganism that consumes bacteria. The genome of Rickettsia felis is the fourth completed Rickettsia genome, whereas the species Streptococcus agalactiae now has a third reported complete genome, along with shotgun sequences for five other strains. The completion of the Dictyostelium discoideum genome marks the beginning of a new era for the study of this important model organism.
