Abstract

The abundance of the East Greenland/Iceland stock of Balaenoptera physalus is estimated as 10 378 whales (CV=0.159; 95% confidence interval (7600, 14 200) whales). Fin whale abundance estimates are also obtained from Faroese NASS-89 data and Icelandic and Faroese NASS-87 data. The 1987 estimate for the East Greenland/Iceland stock from Icelandic and Faroese data alone (5479 whales) is a good agreement with other estimates. -from Authors
