Abstract

Anode supported A-site deficient Lax-Sr1-1.5x TiO3 has been developed. In this study, a 5 x 5 cm planar SOFC, which consisted of (140 mu m of NiO tape), anode (A-site deficient Lax-Sr1-1.5xTiO3 similar to 1200 mu m), and cathode (La0.6Sr0.4CoO3 similar to 30 mu m), has been developed and tested. The contacting studies were carried out using pressure detection film. Compressibility of different thickness alumina felt gaskets was investigated at different torque compression force. Appropriate gasket thicknesses were selected to achieve sufficient sealing and contact pressure. To validate the test facility, with commercially available H.C. Starck ASC3 standard 5 cm x 5 cm anode supported planar fuel cell, a total output power of 2.1 W (0.125 Wcm(-2)) was achieved at 850 degrees C with 0.97 V of open circuit voltage, ohmic resistance (R-ohm) of 0.8 Omega cm(2) and the polarization resistance (R-p) of 1.16 Omega cm(2). Initial data produced with A-site deficient La-x-Sr(1-1.5)xTiO(3) in the same test configuration has shown total resistance of 3.12 Omega cm(2).
