ESP and speaking

This chapter reviews English for specific purposes (ESP) speaking research with a view toward revealing some common threads running through this rich literature. By focusing on the relational aspects of ESP speaking, corpus research, multimodality, and pedagogy, we argue that ESP speaking research in many ESP contexts can be extended to teaching and learning in other settings. We highlight the importance of creating evidence-based materials and encourage practitioners to conduct research to both inform their ESP speaking courses and facilitate their students' learning, offering advice on how this can be done.
