Abstract

This special issue of C21 Literature examines how the contemporary novel responds to the increasingly entangled relationship between digital media and literary writing. The editors, Sandro Eich and Dong Xia, introduce the two book review essays and five articles and contextualise how three main concerns—communications, remediations, and genres—are what transpire from the contributions. How the contemporary novel stages these aspects of everyday life under digital conditions is a shared concern across the articles, highlighting the heterogeneous forms and functions of the relationship between digital media and the novel.
