Abstract
We present maximum entropy reconstructions of the stellar surface of the K0 dwarf AB Doradus using observations obtained in 1993 November. Doppler images are produced using the Li I 6708-Angstrom Line and compared to images produced using Ca I and Fe I lines. An Li abundance of log N(Li) = 2.9 +/- 0.3 is measured using local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) profile synthesis, By assessing how enhanced spot Li abundances affect fits between synthetic reconstructions and the observed data, we conclude that the presence of starspots is unlikely to lead to an overestimation of the photospheric Li abundance. Moreover, Li abundances in starspots do not appear to be enhanced with respect to the photospheric level. The equivalent width measurements for the Li I 6708-Angstrom line are strengthened by the presence of starspots. This effect is probably due to their lower effective temperatures. Because the spots were widely distributed in longitude at the time of observation, the extent to which the Li I line equivalent width is modulated as the star rotates is diluted.
