Abstract
During and after the IMF crisis of 1997-2001 several South Korean film deployed time travel narratives to explore the impact Of compressed modernity on national identity. These films "decompressed" recent history to negotiate social changes brought about by the crisis, particularly in relation to changing gender roles.
