Abstract

The synthesis of a novel macrocyclic carbonate (5) is described which undergoes a base mediated retro-Aldol reaction to cleave the C8-C14 bond giving the highly functionalised decalin unit (7). This key reaction has allowed the preparation of further derivatives for synthetic studies and biological evaluation.
