    Abstract

The objectives of the Scottish Economic Society are to promote the study and teaching of economics on the widest basis, in accordance with the Scottish tradition of political economy inspired by Adam Smith and to provide a forum for the discussion of Scottish economic issues and their relationship to the political and social life of Scotland. In keeping with the latter objective, in a year when voters in Scotland go to the polls to make an historic choice in a referendum on Scottish Independence, the Society has sought to facilitate the economic debate surrounding this choice by supporting the publication of non-technical, informative research on a range of issues from a variety of perspectives.
