Best Man Corner [Liberia: Legacies of Peace Documentary Short Film Series]

Research output: Non-textual formDigital or Visual Products

Over 175,000 motorcycle taxi drivers operate across Liberia. Most of them are either former child soldiers or conflict-affected youth who lost out on economic and educational opportunities because of the war. Best Man Corner profiles the young riders of one of Monrovia's motorcycle taxi ranks, exploring how the "motorbike hustle" is a means of survival but also a form of peace-building.

Best Many Corner is a documentary short film that forms part of the documentary short film series, Liberia: Legacies of Peace, funded by a grant from the SFC ODA Global Challenges Research Fund. The film has been screened by invitation at several universities, including the Centre for Peace Studies at UiT The Artic University of Norway (Tromsø). The film was also invited for special screening at UNICEF House in New York on 25 November 2019: "Nothing About Us Without Us: Participatory Policy Research with Children and Youth Affected by Conflict." The event was sponsored by the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR), War Child (an NGO focusing on addressing children's pressing needs during conflict), and UNICEF.
