Abstract

This article discusses marine mammal examples for each of these basic problems in the behavioral ecology of all animal species: foraging behavior: how to find, select, and process prey; predator avoidance or defense: the flip side of foraging from the prey’s point of view; dispersal and migration; competition and agonistic behavior; sexual behavior: how to find, court, and choose mates; parental behavior; social behavior; and social relationships.
