Abstract
This article addresses the perennial question of Baptist identity, critiquing the oft-adopted adage that Baptists are essentially congregationalists who adopt believers’ baptism. It explores critically some multi-point and single-point understandings of ‘Baptist’ and alights on a ‘biblically different’ hermeneutical understanding that bridges the divide between pragmatism and theology, construing our baptistic identity as dynamically ‘under the Lordship of Christ’.
