Automorphism groups of block structures with and without treatments

Abstract

A designed experiment has two permutation groups associated with it. The first, consisting of all automorphisms of the block structure (ignoring treatments) determines the strata for the subsequent analysis. The second, comprising all permutations of the plots which respect both the block structure and the treatment allocation, can help to simplify calculation of efficiency factors and hence assessment of designs.
