Abstract

This work presents an application of ternary carbonate to hybrid direct carbon fuel cells, which was composed of a planar 8 mol% Y2O3-ZrO2 (YSZ) electrolyte with a NiO-YSZ anode and a LSMYSZ cathode. A variety of carbonate content (10 wt%, 25 wt%, and 40 wt%) was evaluated in HDCFCs in terms of cell resistance, cell initial performance and durability. The best performance was 50.02 mW cm-2 when the HDCFC was operating at 700 °C in the presence of a 40 wt% ternary carbonate.
