An early Ottoman history: the Oxford Anonymous chronicle (Bodleian Library, Ms Marsh 313)

Dimitris J. Kastritsis

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Fully annotated with a detailed historical introduction, maps, glossary and sample pages in facsimile. The manuscript translated here contains one of the most important texts for understanding the development of early Ottoman historiography. Like other histories produced in the late fifteenth century, it contains a coherent argument for Ottoman superiority over other dynasties. It also shows a strong preoccupation with civil strife and dynastic succession.
