The title compound, C7H8N3+.C5H7O4-, crystallizes with Z' = 2 in space group P2(1)/c; eight independent N - H...O hydrogen bonds [H...O = 1.75 - 1.88 Angstrom, N...O = 2.699 (2) - 2.829 (2) Angstrom and N - H...O = 147 - 179degrees] link the four independent ions into sheets.
