Abstract

Language attitude is an important reason for language endangerment. Taking the inheritance of Nubian language in Egypt as an example, this paper points out that lack of characters and written language, great differences between dialects, the historical memory of marginalization, the decline of"esprit de clocher"of language, the disadvantageous position in language planning, and the impact of the globalization are the internal and external causes of the negative attitude of Nubians towards their native language, which together contribute to the endangered state of Nubian language. In order to protect language diversity, the mainstream society should form a positive attitude towards endangered languages, so as to stimulate the positive attitude of endangered language users.
