Abstract
The essay examines the concept of play as an aesthetic element in Marcel Duchamp's art. It argues that Duchamp developed his playful art by infusing the play aspects in the works of mathematician Henri Poincaré and philosopher Henri Bergson. It concludes that their influence allowed Duchamp to develop play as an aesthetic element that refuses conventions by producing a reflective process of understanding.
